Job description

We are looking to hire a Lead Copywriter to join our dynamic Creative team here at MANUAL. As the Lead Copywriter, you will be entrusted with the responsibility of shaping and defining the tone of voice for MANUAL and our sub-brands. You will lead a team of freelancers in creating captivating copy for various communication channels, ensuring consistency and alignment with our brand values and objectives. RESPONSIBILITIES


  • As a hands-on leader you should feel comfortable writing copy for a variety of touchpoints, as well as assigning the right freelance resource to specific projects for the best results.

  • Lead the copywriting team in conceptualising and developing creative ideas and messaging strategies to effectively communicate brand values and key commercial messages.

  • Collaborate with other members of the creative team, including designers, art directors, and content strategists, to ensure seamless integration of copy with visual elements and overall campaign objectives.

  • Generate original, clear, and engaging copy for a variety of channels including digital ads, website content, email campaigns, social media posts, video scripts, and print materials.

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Collaborate closely with key stakeholders across the business including, marketing managers, category managers, customer service and other stakeholders to understand project objectives, target audience insights, and brand guidelines.

  • Provide constructive feedback and guidance to copywriters to help them improve their skills and develop their creative abilities.

  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in copywriting and content marketing to continuously enhance the team's performance and output.

  • Monitor and analyse the performance of copywriting projects, using data and insights to iterate and optimise content for better engagement and results.

Job requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Marketing, Communications, or related field.

  • Proven experience (7+ years) working as a copywriter in an agency or in-house creative team, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills with a keen eye for detail and a strong command of grammar, syntax, and punctuation.

  • Portfolio demonstrating a range of successful copywriting projects across different channels and industries.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a team, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks, manage deadlines, and coordinate resources effectively.

  • Proficiency in SEO principles and techniques for optimising copy for search engines.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate ideas clearly and provide constructive feedback.

  • Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a passion for storytelling and a deep understanding of audience psychology.

  • Experience with A/B testing and data analysis tools preferred.

  • Knowledge of advertising, medical regulations and compliance standards is a plus but not necessary.
